How We Picked the Best Non-Alcoholic Cider
- Sales: we started from the units sold at Upside Drinks over the last 90 days. Sober Carpenter led.
- One of each style: classic, dry, spiced, ginger, berry and a verjus cider, so the list is not ten versions of the same can.
- Label data: sugar and calories are taken from the nutrition labels, from 2.0 g to 5.4 g of sugar per 100 mL.
- In stock: every cider on the list was in stock when we wrote this.
1. Sober Carpenter Craft Cider

Price: $3.49 / can (473 mL) / Buy Now
Our best-selling non-alcoholic cider, and by a wide margin. Sober Carpenter ferments a real cider, then removes the alcohol, which is why it tastes drier than apple juice. The brand lists apple, grape and lemon as its notes, and it comes in a tall 473 mL can for the same price as most 355 mL ciders.
Things We Like
- Best seller
- Tall 473 mL can: at $3.49
- Made in Quebec
2. Bulwark Original Craft Cider

Price: $3.49 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now
Bulwark makes it from a blend of five apples grown in Nova Scotia, and the label keeps it short: carbonated water, fermented apple juice, apple juice. It is the reference point for the other four Bulwark flavours on this list. The brand suggests pouring it like a sparkling wine, and it works well in a flute at the table.
Things We Like
- Five-apple blend
- Short ingredient list: water, fermented apple juice, apple juice
- Made in Nova Scotia
3. Bulwark Orchard Peach

Price: $3.49 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now
The same five-apple base as the Original, with peach aroma added. Bulwark presses its Annapolis Valley apples on site. It is the second-best-selling Bulwark flavour at Upside Drinks.
Things We Like

- Same price as the Original
4. Bulwark Winter Craft Cider (Limited Edition)

Price: $3.49 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now

Things We Like
- Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger
- Limited edition
- Works warm or cold
5. Lonetree Dry Apple Cider

Price: $3.29 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now
The driest cider on this list: 2.0 g of sugar per 100 mL and 30 calories per can, less than half of most others here. Lonetree describes a tangy apple character with gentle tannins and a dry finish, and the label says it is naturally gluten-free with no artificial flavours or colours.

The only cider on this list labelled 0.0% alcohol, and the cheapest single can at $3.14. The ingredient list has three items: apples, water and malic acid. Yip describes it as crisp and semi-sweet, which matches the 3.9 g of sugar per 100 mL on the label.

- Three ingredients
- Lowest price per can: $3.14
7. Bulwark Lemon Ginger

Price: $3.49 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now

Things We Like
- Ginger bite
- A little less sugar: than the Original
- Nova Scotia apples
8. Lonetree Apple Ginger Cider

Price: $3.29 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now
Canadian apples with real ginger, according to Lonetree. It is the sweetest cider here at 5.4 g of sugar per 100 mL, so it suits people who find dry ciders too sharp. The brand pairs it with sushi, curries and stir-fries.
Things We Like
- Real ginger
- Rounder and sweeter: 5.4 g per 100 mL
- Naturally gluten-free: according to the brand
9. Bulwark Blush Triple Berry

Price: $3.49 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now
Wild berries on the Annapolis Valley apple blend, which gives it a pink colour in the glass. Same sugar and calories as the Original (4.5 g per 100 mL, 70 per can), so the difference is all in the fruit.
Things We Like
- Wild berries
- Pink in the glass
- Same 70 calories as the Original
10. Proxies Dry Cider

Price: $3.59 / can (355 mL) / Buy Now
Proxies blends apples with verjus, the juice of unripe grapes, to get the tartness of a farmhouse or Spanish-style cider. BevNet called it "one of the most convincing alcohol-free products we've sampled," as quoted by the brand. It is the most wine-like cider here and the one to try if the others feel too much like juice.
Things We Like
- Apples and verjus
- Tart and structured
- 3.4 g sugar per 100 mL
Cider vs Apple Juice: What's the Difference?
Apple juice is pressed fruit. Cider is apple juice that has been fermented: yeast turns part of the sugar into alcohol and builds acidity and dryness. A non-alcoholic cider then either has the alcohol removed, like Sober Carpenter, or is made so that very little alcohol forms.
The result is less sweet than juice. Apple juice usually carries around 10 g of sugar per 100 mL, while the ciders on this list range from 2.0 g (Lonetree Dry Apple) to 5.4 g (Lonetree Apple Ginger). That is why a dry cider tastes closer to a sparkling wine than to a juice box.
How to Serve Non-Alcoholic Cider
- Cold: 4 to 7°C for the dry and classic ciders.
- In a wine glass or a flute: it keeps the bubbles and the aroma.
- Warm, for the spiced ones: heat Bulwark Winter gently with an orange slice, without boiling.
- With food: dry ciders with cheese and charcuterie, ginger ciders with spicy dishes.
